Dimensional Wall Art - Depth and Shadow

Copper Sparks' creations include distinctive styles of dimensional wall art. Dramatic "Horns" evoke a sense of raw, untamed beauty, their fluted forms reaching outward with a powerful presence. The intricate "Badges," smaller in scale, feature delicate details and vibrant colors, inviting close inspection. "Baskets" offer a more organic feel, cradling luminous glass elements and naturally shaped stones. And "Hoops," perhaps the most abstract, explores the interplay of circles and lines, creating a sense of movement and energy.

Each piece is truly unique. The copper is torched, sometimes hammered and other times molten, resulting in organic and nuclear expressions. The glass is fused and often dichroic, creating vibrant colors and textures. Natural stones and minerals, chosen for their inherent beauty, like amethyst, quartz, kyanite, and chrysocolla, ground the shimmering glass and fiery copper with hard rock.

A unique system of fully pivoting handmade copper hooks allows each piece to be displayed in various captivating arrangements, adding a touch of modern elegance to any formal or casual space, indoors or out. The artist was amused and pleased to see curators at a recent art show display a piece in a novel way, demonstrating the versatility of the hanging system. The artist signs and dates each original artwork and the copper is sealed with a clear coat to protect its beauty for years.

MOBILES AND STABILES - Motion and Stillness

John's kinetic mobiles dance in the air, bringing life and movement to any space, inside or out. Stabiles offer a moment of quiet contemplation, their balanced forms perfect for interior display. Mobiles, along with larger stabiles that feature a copper plate at the base, are signed and dated. Soldered joints ensure strength and stability. Simple assembly may be required; we provide clear instructions, noting that hooks generally face forward and solder joints to the back. Displayed outdoors, the copper will age gracefully, acquiring a rich, greenish patina.

MOBILES

Mobiles were John's initial interest as he found his path as a copper artist. Starting with cardboard wings and wire coat hangers, he began to experiment with ever-increasing complexity until his full energy began to bloom. The simple act of balancing these makeshift forms sparked a passion within him. He was captivated by the interplay of weight and movement, the way a gentle breeze could transform a sculpted object into a graceful dance of image and light. This fascination drove him to explore the possibilities of copper, a material he found both malleable and enduring.

STABILES

Exploring the magical world of kinetic sculpture led the artist to discover stabiles, works designed for tabletops and credenzas. While his early passion lay in the dynamic movement of soaring, wind-driven mobiles, he found a different kind of satisfaction in the quiet elegance of these grounded pieces. They resonated with a different aspect of his aesthetic spirit, offering a moment of calm contemplation of form and balance.
